genreongenre sets film genre along a spectrum of illumination — each genre a different light on how to live, from surviving against your fears in Horror to moving beyond yourself in Romance — and gives it a visual scaffolding for exploring every intersection and combination of the genres along it.
Whereas the web version serves as an expansive exploration of this concept and draws from a live film database with 13 genres and 78 unique genre intersections, the print serves as a definitive curation of 14 genres with 91 unique genre combinations. Notable intersections where films shine beyond the boundaries of their original genres are highlighted as Radiant examples of a new kind of genre entirely. In the web version this effect is emulated by highlighting those films that garner an exceptionally high user rating.
Explore how these radiant genres are created and how your understanding of your favorite films could be subverted — all showcased and mapped to the full color spectrum, printed on high quality archival-grade material that you can display in your home or office.
